NICOLAS KRIVINE COUNSELLOR

Going to See a Counsellor

You may consider going to see a counsellor if you have a continuing problem or have suffered a trauma. It might be a problem in a relationship (e.g. not feeling close), or with depression, anxiety or anger, or about someone you have lost. It may involve suicidal thoughts. Or it may be something else. I have helped clients with these and many other issues.
Going to counselling gives you the opportunity to get things off your chest, to start to deal with your demons, to approach things differently and to heal emotionally.
Deciding to see a counsellor can be a big step - sharing personal thoughts and, at first, trusting a new person. Counselling does not provide magical or easy answers and it is not usually a quick fix. However, the more you put into it and give it your best, the more likely you can change for the better.

"Nick was warm and supportive and helped me navigate a complex series of circumstances in my life. He gave me sensitivity and related to me in ways in which I could only compare to close amly and friends. He was professional as well as empathetic. I wholeheartedly recommend his service" JM

The Way I Work

My practice is Person Centred Counselling. I put you at the centre of the process. I treat people with respect, understanding and honesty. I take my cues from you and will not impose my views on you. I believe that people are the experts on themselves but may not realise it. I am interested in your experiences. I wish to help you make more sense of what troubles you and to empower yourself. But I am not afraid to challenge or suggest practical ways forward. Above all I am here to listen and understand.

At the first session we can talk about what you wish to change in your life. You will want to know if you can feel comfortable confiding in me. Most people do. I believe that counselling should be accessible and down-to-earth. I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. I work to all professional standards, particularly in relation to confidentiality, emotional safety and data protection.
If you wish to make changes in your life you can do so through gaining a greater understanding of yourself. In this way you will come to have the emotional peace to live a fuller life.

"We met Nick for a few sessions during a very testing time in our 15-year marriage. Nick provided a safe space for us to talk and he enabled each of our voices to be heard. Nick was calm, patient and thoughful, allowing us time to process what was going on which resulted in us finding a way forward." AB

My Experience

Previously I worked for over 40 years as a social worker and team leader. My clients were mainly children and families, foster carers and adults with mental health issues. In my practice, I saw people suffering considerable emotional pain and used my counselling skills to help them. I learned that people can find strength through their struggles, can discover greater inner calm and can move on with their lives. My qualifications: BA (Hons) degree 1972; Certificate of Qualification in Social Work 1978; Diploma in Counselling 2000.

"Nick is a kind, thoughtful, sympathetic, humane, experienced and engaged therapist. After we'd talked for some months, he had a crucial insight into my issues which no-one had had, and then suggested a course of action which changed my life. I'm forever indebted to Nick for his help and support, and to The Awareness Centre for bringing us together and giving us a perfect place to talk." N

Charges

£65 per 50 minutes for individuals and £100 for couples. I leave space in my schedule so I can offer you an early appointment. I offer a free short phone call before the counselling starts to introduce myself.
